Adverts: DA goes on nationwide recruitment drive
18 Feb 2013
THE Democratic Alliance has embarked on a nationwide recruitment drive for would-be members of Parliament and legislatures.
The party advertised in the Sunday newspapers, inviting people to apply to stand in the 2014 elections. The DA undertook a similar exercise in 2008.
Unlike the previous occasion, when the DA looked for candidates with a track record of leadership with a post-matric qualification and who subscribed to its vision, this time around the party wants candidates who speak more than one language and have excellent communication and writing skills.
DA national spokesperson Mmusi Maimane said it had always been the principle of his party to look for the best working people in South Africa for elections.
He said that the DA believed only the best people should serve the people of South Africa, adding: “We can’t use political office to reward people. We just can’t.”
Maimane said the process of recruiting people through advertisements and then conducting interviews to test the potential and skills of candidates had worked well for the DA. He said through the initiative, competent people could join the DA and serve in the party.
