IT was not a good day yesterday for KwaZulu-Natal hockey in tournaments around the country, writes JONATHAN COOK.
The Pietermaritzburg/Durban campuses combined University of KZN women’s team were beaten 8-0 by University of Stellenbosch after trailing 3-0 at the interval in the University Sport SA Hockey Week in Bloemfontein.
The fancied UKZN men also had a disappointing day.
After leading 2-0 against University of Cape Town through field goals from Dalan Phillips and Duzo Khanyile, UKZN leaked three goals to go down 3-2 with Ant Vervoort leading the UCT comeback.
And at the SA U18 interprovincial girls’ tournament in Durban, KZN Inland only had Julia Hudson’s goal to show for their efforts in a 3-1 defeat to Southern Free State.
Host province KZN Coastals were beaten 3-0 by Northern Gauteng.
