Injuries blow for WP

WESTERN Province have suffered an untimely double injury blow heading into a crucial stage of the Absa Currie Cup season, with both Gio Aplon and Gary van Aswegen being ruled out for a period of time with ankle injuries.
“He [Aplon] has a ligament tear to the ankle and will be out for three weeks, possibly more,” said coach Allister Coetzee.
Aplon has been replaced in the team to play the Lions by Damian de Allende, who takes the No 11 jersey he wore in the match against the Sharks in Durban two weeks ago as one of three changes to the side that beat Griquas 45-21 last weekend.
The other two changes both come at forward, with one of them being a positional switch as Don Armand goes to lock in place of Wilhelm van der Sluys to make room for the return of Tyrone Holmes on the blindside flank.
Burton Francis, considered surplus to requirements after he played for the Stormers while not on contract earlier in the year, has left to play for the SWD Eagles, and Kurt Coleman is out for the season with a broken jaw.
Now Van Aswegen is also out for the rest of the year.
