A WORKER at a chemical plant was admitted to Medi-Clinic’s emergency centre in Pietermaritzburg with chemical burns yesterday afternoon.
It is not clear how Mbongiseni Zulu, an employee at Dystar Boehme Africa in Willowton, came into contact with the chemicals.
Dystar manufactures dye for fabrics and leather.
Zulu told paramedics he was mixing two chemicals when a reaction occurred. The chemicals fizzed and splashed on to his body. He suffered severe burns to his right foot, arm and chest.
The night supervisor, a Mr Zuma, said he could not comment and that only the management was authorised to do so.
Medi-Clinic spokesperson Reshnee Beekrum said Zulu was still at the emergency centre yesterday evening.
