9/11 widow killed in plane crash

NEW YORK — One of the 50 people killed in the fiery plane crash in New York state on Thursday was a widow whose husband was killed in the September 11 attacks, a local newspaper reported.
Beverly Eckert was travelling to Buffalo to celebrate what would have been her husband Sean Rooney’s 58th birthday, the Buffalo News reported.
“We know she was on that plane,” her sister Sue Bourque told the paper, “and now she’s with him.”
Eckert was due to attend the presentation of a scholarship in Rooney’s name at the high school where the two met.
She served as co-chair of the Voices of September 11, which pushed for better investigation of the attacks and a permanent memorial.
