WITNESS and WEEKEND WITNESS COMPETITION RULES
The Witness subscribes to all the basic tenets of fair practice
entrenched in the Consumer Protection Act and runs competitions as a
device for encouraging regular purchase and / or subscription to its
papers. Some competitions may be aimed exclusively at non-regular
readers, and others will be aimed at existing readers. Some will
provide equal opportunities for both existing as well as potential new
readers. The following rules are designed to ensure fair play in all
instances:

Witness Staff and
their immediate families as well as those
of sponsors of prizes are ineligible for entry into competitions run in
our publications. |
| 2. |
Winners will be
required to verify that they qualify to
enter and to provide proof of identity and sign acknowledgement of
acceptance of the prize offered. |
| 3. |
SMS competitions
are charged at R1,50 per sms in terms of
the CPA and entrants may submit as many entries as they wish. There is
no entry fee for any competition run by the paper, although travel
prizes may at times require the payment of baggage insurance and port
duties as dictated by the prize sponsors. |
| 4. |
All prize winners
are identified by way of a random draw
from all entries submitted. |
| 5. |
Closing and
announcement dates are published alongside each
competition. |
| 6. |
Winners will be
announced in the print edition of the
Witness. In addition, The Witness will make all reasonable
efforts to contact the winner telephonically. If the winner is
uncontactable that person’s right to the prize will be deemed to have
been waived, and the prize will be forfeited. The Witness
reserves the right to award the prize to the next randomly drawn
participant. |

Unless otherwise
stated, winners of a prize whether on the
Witness website or in the print edition of the paper, will not
be eligible to win another prize within a 3 month period. |
| 8. |
The Witness may
elect to publish the winners name and image
at no cost |
| 9. |
Prizes are not
transferable and The Witness reserves the
right to substitute a prize with another prize of a comparable value,
should the offered prize for any reason, not be available. Subject to
the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, the specification
of the prize in any advertisement may differ from the prize
presented. |
| 10. |
The Witness does
not hold itself responsible for any
technical failures, with regard to submission of entries and does not
hold itself responsible for any entry that has bee omitted from the
draw. |
| 11. |
The Witness may
refuse at its discretion to award a prize
to a particular contestant, if in its opinion any entry conditions have
not been adhered to, or if it detects any irregularities or fraudulent
activities, relating to the entry/s of a said contestant. |
| 12. |
The Witness
reserves the right to amend these rules at its
own discretion at any time and entry into any one of its competitions
implies acceptance of all rules in place at the time of the running of
the competition in question. |
